starting off at Champagne Room

For today, I made plans with Frieder and Svenja to give them a city tour. I warned them beforehand that we might get lost in reaching specific places of interest as I'll be doing this for the first time.

There were some areas that Frieder wanted to visit so we'll see, since there were typhoon warnings and I wasn't too keen on being stuck outside Makati. I made a mental itinerary for them but since we ended last night a bit too late, we decided to meet after lunch.

Jul 26, lunch at Champagne Room of Manila Hotel ( p. 77, Guide B ) - Initially, we were supposed to meet in a LRT station before heading to Binondo for some dimsum but since it was raining and I wanted some lunch, I changed the plan and headed towards Manila Hotel.

I really liked the interiors and details of this restaurant. The colors, the ceramic figurines, the golden palm trees, everything was nicely opulent and elegant.

Some buns with pâté were served first.

I chose the Businessman's Lunch which was affordably priced. The soup was called Chicken and Duck Noodle Soup with Coriander and Ginger Spice. This was light and flavorful.

Next came the salad - Green Field Salad with Bacon Dressing, Arugula, Endive and Shave Parmesan. I liked that the serving sizes were just enough and not too much for lunch.

My main course was Lamb Chops with Port Wine Reduction. I wished I had one of these plate lids.

For dessert, I was made to choose from the dessert trolley. All the desserts were on the side and there was an empty gap in the middle. Strange. Anyway, I chose a cheesecake with some fruit slices.

Finally, a cup of coffee with pralines.

I loved that they provided bag stools. Unfortunately, these were obviously not matching with the entire restaurant and stood out like ugly sore thumbs. Maybe these were borrowed from Mabuhay Palace, another hotel establishment which had these colors.

They should really have ones made only for Champagne Room. My OCiness can't seem to let go of this flaw.

Overall, this was a good start to my day as a tour guide for Frieder and Svenja. The rains weren't stopping, though. There could be floods everywhere. Perhaps we should just stay here, have tea and some wine.

Wishy-washy.
